Stackstorm: free to play in your browser
Stackstorm is a falling-block puzzle played in a wide 12-column well. Seven four-cell shapes drop from the top, and you slide and rotate them to fill complete rows, which then clear. Clear two or more rows at once and you charge the storm meter, a lightning strike that wipes out your two fullest rows on demand.
Play solo to chase your best score, or go head to head on one screen in 2-player versus, where both players get the same pieces in the same order and big clears push junk rows into your rival's well. It suits a quick solo session as much as a couch rivalry.
How to play
- Move the falling piece left and right with the stick, d-pad, A/D or the arrow keys.
- Rotate with A on a controller, W for player 1 or the up arrow for player 2.
- Push down to soft drop, or slam it straight down with up on the stick, Space or Enter.
- Fill every cell in a row to clear it; the speed goes up a level every 8 lines.
- Clear 2, 3 or 4 rows at once to fill the storm meter.
- When the meter is full, press X on a controller, E or L to call down lightning.
- The game ends when your stack reaches the top of the well.
Game modes
- 1 Player
- An endless climb through the levels. Your best score is saved on your device and shown next to the well.
- 2 Player Versus
- Two wells side by side with a shared piece order. Clearing 2, 3 or 4 rows sends 1, 2 or 4 junk rows to your opponent, and the last player still stacking wins.
Tips
- Single-row clears never charge the storm, so build up for doubles, triples and fours whenever the stack is safe.
- Save the storm for a messy stack: it removes your two fullest rows even if they still have holes.
- Lines are worth 100, 300, 550 or 900 points multiplied by your level, so big clears late in a run pay best.
- Hard drops add 2 points per row fallen, so slam pieces down once they are lined up.
- In versus, your own clears cancel incoming junk first. Watch the orange bar beside your well and clear before it lands.
- Junk rows always have one open column, so leave room to drop a long piece down it.
Questions
Is Stackstorm free, and do I need to download anything?
It is completely free and runs in your browser with no download or sign-up.
Can I play with a controller?
Yes. Xbox, PlayStation and Switch Pro controllers work, as does a keyboard. On phones and iPad you get on-screen buttons for move, soft drop (double-tap to slam), rotate and storm.
How does 2-player work?
Both players share one screen. Each can use their own controller, or split the keyboard: player 1 on WASD with Space and F, player 2 on the arrows with Enter and L.
Can I play offline?
Yes. Press the "Save for offline" button on the game page and it is stored on your device for play without a connection.
