Mahjong: free to play in your browser
Mahjong solitaire is a calm tile-matching puzzle. The tiles are stacked in a layout, and you clear them by matching pairs of tiles with the same picture, as long as both are free.
Every deal here is built so it can be solved, so the board never starts impossible. Play the classic turtle layout or the taller, gentler tower, and use undo, hints and shuffle whenever you need them.
How to play
- Choose Classic (the turtle) or Tower.
- A tile is free if nothing is on top of it and its left or right side is open.
- Tap a free tile, then tap a free tile with the same picture to remove both.
- Any flower matches any flower, and any season matches any season.
- If no pairs are left, press SHUFFLE. UNDO takes back your last match and HINT shows a pair.
- Clear every tile to win. Your best time is saved.
Game modes
- Classic
- The traditional turtle layout with 144 tiles. On an upright phone it uses the tower so the tiles are big enough to tap.
- Tower
- All 144 tiles in three tall, wide layers. More tiles start free, so it’s a gentler game.
Tips
- Clear tiles from the top layers and long rows first, so more tiles open up.
- When three or four of a picture are free, think about which pair to take.
- Look for tiles that are blocking several others and free them early.
- Use hints sparingly, and save shuffle for when you’re really stuck.
Questions
Can every game be solved?
Yes. Every deal starts solvable. If you get stuck after a few choices, undo or shuffle the tiles that are left.
Which tiles can I pick?
Only free tiles: nothing on top, and an open left or right side. Locked tiles give a little shake when you tap them.
Can I play with a keyboard or controller?
Yes. Use the arrows or stick to jump between free tiles, then Space or A to pick. Z or Y undoes, H shows a hint and S shuffles.
