Byte Chase: free to play in your browser

Byte Chase is a neon maze chase. Steer your runner around the maze collecting every bit while four glitches hunt you down. Grab one of the flashing overclock pickups and the hunters turn blue, so you can chase them for big points. Clear the maze to move on to the next level.

Play alone, or with a friend in two-player co-op where you share lives and race each other for points. Every third level is a glitch storm, where the glitches move faster and never stop hunting.

How to play

  1. Choose 1 Player or 2 Player Co-op.
  2. Steer with the stick, d-pad, WASD or the arrow keys. On touch screens, use the on-screen arrows.
  3. Press a turn early and your runner will take it at the next gap.
  4. Eat every bit in the maze to clear the level.
  5. Collect an overclock to make the glitches edible for a few seconds.
  6. Use the tunnel on each side to wrap across the maze.

Game modes

1 Player
A solo run with three lives and an extra life at 10,000 points.
2 Player Co-op
Two runners share three lives and a team score. While lives remain, a caught player comes back after a short pause with a moment of protection.

Tips

  • Each glitch behaves differently: Spike chases you directly, Vex aims ahead of you, Drift patrols until you get close, and Static moves erratically.
  • Glitches alternate between roaming and hunting early in a level. Use the calm moments to clear distant corners.
  • Chain glitches during one overclock to score 200, 400, 800 and then 1,600 points.
  • Glitches slow down in the side tunnels, which makes them a good escape route.
  • Overclocks get shorter on later levels, so save them until glitches are close.
