Snake: free to play in your browser
Snake is the classic arcade game: steer a growing snake around the board, eat the glowing apples and don't crash. Every apple makes you longer and a little faster, and the only thing that can stop you is a wall or your own tail.
This version glides smoothly between squares, with combo bonuses for quick eating and a golden star that appears every six apples for 50 extra points. Play with arrow keys or WASD, a controller, or by swiping on your phone.
How to play
- Choose Classic, No Walls or Turbo.
- Press a direction to start. The snake keeps moving until you turn it.
- Eat the pink apples to grow and score 10 points. Eat several in quick succession for a combo bonus.
- Every sixth apple brings a golden star worth 50 points. Grab it before its timer runs out.
- Hitting a wall (in Classic and Turbo) or any part of your own body ends the game.
Game modes
- Classic
- The original: the edges of the board are walls.
- No Walls
- Leave one side of the board and you come back on the other. Only your own tail can stop you.
- Turbo
- Starts fast and gets faster. For players who find Classic too relaxed.
Tips
- Move in long sweeps around the edge of the board rather than chasing each apple directly.
- Leave yourself an escape route. The longer you get, the easier it is to trap yourself.
- You can queue up two turns in a row, which makes tight U-turns easy.

How do I play on a phone?
Swipe anywhere in the direction you want to go, or tap the big arrow buttons under the board.
Does it get faster?
Yes. Every apple speeds the snake up a little, up to a maximum speed.
Is my high score saved?
Yes, your best score for each mode is saved on your device.
